First Alligator Attack 1865

First Alligator Attack 1865

First alligator attack near Port Denison W.A. But let’s be clear. It wasn’t an alligator.

FIRST ALLIGATOR ATTACK. NO WAY!

This is likely the very first alligator attack in Australia, but the truth is that the beast was not an alligator, but rather a crocodile (Crocodylus Porosus).

The thing is that th,ere are no alligators in Australia but to make up for that early settlers called crocodiles by a different name i.e. alligators, or to be quite short about it, “gators.”

Introducing James Hume – the victim.

FIRST ALLIGATOR ATTACK - THE CROCODILE.

James Hume is attacked by a crocodile and so we have a man in Australia attacked (non-fatal) by a crocodile.

ALLIGATORS ARE NOT CROCODILES.

This is the article in th newspaper of the day.
James was having a bit of a swim. In return for his pleasure he copped a bit of pain. He was attacked in the shallow water while standing. The croc inflicted some terrible wounds.

This also leads into an attack on Mr. Emmerson at a later date.

Crocodiles and gators can bit.

Watch yourself.
